Westbound LIE in Medford to close Friday evening and parts to Sunday.

The westbound Long Island Expressway in Medford is scheduled to be closed Friday night and Monday night for maintenance work, the state transportation department said.

Also, the two lanes of the eastbound Southern State Parkway are scheduled to be closed early Sunday morning in Hempstead Town so workers can do bridge inspection and maintenance work, state officials said.

The LIE closure at Exit 65 Horseblock Road starts 7 p.m. with two westbound lanes, and by 10 p.m. all the westbound lanes will be off limits, with traffic diverted to the LIE service road, state officials said.

The lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Tuesday after the Monday night closure, officials said.

This will allow maintenance and paint work to be done on the Horseblock Road bridge over the LIE, the transportation department said.

On the Southern, the two-lane closures will go from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday at Exit 13 Elmont Road in Elmont, officials said.

Work in both cases may be postponed or prolonged if there’s bad weather, officials said, and motorists are advised to take alternate routes, especially during the initial hours of the shutdowns.
