Tragedy in Connecticut School Shooting

NEWTOWN, Conn. – A heartbreaking and unforgettable tragedy beset the town of Newtown, where 28 people, including 20 children, were killed Friday morning at an elementary school by a lone gunman.

“Evil visited this community today and it’s too early to speak of recovery,” Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said.  “Each parent, each sibling, each member of the family has to understand Connecticut — we’re all in this together.”

The 20-year-old killer, carrying at least two handguns, committed suicide at the school, bringing the death toll to 28, authorities said.

The rampage, coming less than two weeks before Christmas, was the nation’s second-deadliest school shooting, exceeded only by the Virginia Tech massacre that claimed 33 lives in 2007.
