Scam Alert – Be Prepared

The Mooresville Police Department has been made aware of several residents in the Mooresville area receiving phone calls from individuals portraying to be with the U.S. Treasury Department. The caller informs the resident they owe back taxes and demand immediate payment. If payment is not met, warrants for tax evasion will be issued and arrests will follow. The Mooresville Police Department has confirmed these calls are fraudulent and an attempt to solicit money.

If you receive a phone call from anyone portraying to be with the U.S. Treasury Department or Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in regards to the solicitation described above, do not provide any information to them over the phone. If this happens, contact the U.S. Treasury Department IRS Charlotte Field Office at 704-548-4100.
