Authorities will conduct a large-scale search Monday for a partially blind man who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Winston-Salem police believe that Eduardo Mendez Hernandez, 44, has died, Lt. Steven Tollie said.

“We have found no evidence that he’s alive,” Tollie said.

The N.C. Highway Patrol has already done an air search for Hernandez.

Police and search dogs will search for Hernandez along Stagecoach Road. Hernandez was last seen about 4 a.m. Feb. 17 walking away from his apartment at 100 Stagecoach Road.

Hernandez was heavily intoxicated and shirtless and cold and snow have hampered the search for Hernandez.

On the day he disappeared, the temperature had dropped to 16 degrees.

Snow Tuesday caused Winston-Salem police to cancel a ground search.

Hernandez has not used his bank accounts and he hasn’t reported to his job at the Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind on North Point Boulevard. He has had no contact with his family members, Tollie said.

Investigators have spoken to Hernandez’s relatives and friends, Tollie said.

“So far, we haven’t found anyone who would have provided him with shelter or transportation,” Tollie said.

Several sightings of Hernandez were reported initially, but police said those sightings were not credible.

Investigators haven’t determined whether Hernandez’s disappearance involves foul play, police said.
