“Booze It and Lose It” Iredell and Mecklenburg County Halloween Weekend 2014
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AH) Charlotte as well as other towns began using checkpoints at the start of the Halloween weekend. One checkpoint was set up overnight in the 2400 block of Park Road in Charlotte.
Authorities recommend following these simple tips for a safe Halloween:
- CoffeeBefore the Halloween festivities begin, plan a way to safely get home at the end of the night.
- Always designate a sober driver; even one drink is too many to get behind the wheel.
- If you are drunk, take a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation.
- Walking impaired can be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Designate a sober friend to walk you home.
If you see a person who appears to be a drunk driver on the road, contact local law enforcement. Please do not try to apprehended the person, just call the police near the location of the possible crime or offense. They will respond and properly control the situation.
If you know someone who is about to drive or ride impaired, take their keys and help them make safe travel arrangements to where they are going.
All of NCDOT is running a “Booze It and Lose It” campaign through the weekend. Officials call getting behind the wheel after drinking a “terrifying” decision.
So far this year, 242 people have died in North Carolina due to alcohol related crashes, according to NCDOT.
Officers will step up patrols until Sunday this Halloween Weekend. be safe everyone, and remember “Buckle up for Safety!”
