A woman traveling with two children through the El Paso port of entry on Feb. 19 was also hauling a half ton of illegal drugs stashed in her Ram pickup truck.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations officers at the El Paso port ultimately pulled 1,061 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle with an estimated street value of $848,800. Palma Lyon, 32, of Socorro, NM, was detained and her two children were handed over to relatives, said the agency. Lyon was turned over to and arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents. She is currently detained at

The big news for Danica Patrick at Daytona is no longer dating fellow NASCAR Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year contender Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

On Sunday Patrick won the pole for next Sunday’s Daytona 500 with a speed of 196.434 mph, besting three-time Daytona 500 champion Jeff Gordon, who will join her on the outside front row.

Troubled country music star Mindy McCready was found dead today of an apparent suicide … this according to various reports. She was 37. A source close to McCready tells TMZ … McCready shot herself and her dog. Neighbors reported hearing the two gunshots.

A lot of stuff happened in the sports world today. So much to blog about. But I’m in a college basketball frame of mind, and we’re in the midst of Rivalry Week, so I’m going with that. More specifically, we’re only about a month away from the start of the NCAA Tournament. I think that this year’s Tournament is shaping up to be a very good one. That’s because it’s going to be so wide open it’s ridiculous. There isn’t one dominant team. Rather, there are about 10 teams that I can see winning the title…and I can also see those same 10 losing to an 11-seed in the second round.

Wrestling? The IOC looked at all 26 sports on the Olympic program, decided on one to eliminate, and picked wrestling? While keeping modern pentathlon and taekwondo? To say I’m shocked and disappointed would be an understatement. I was so confident in wrestling’s place on the Olympic program that I figured it wouldn’t even enter into the discussion. The decision to drop it is simply mind-boggling. And it makes you wonder what the IOC’s real motivation was.
